Meet David K. Bryant

David spent his career as a journalist and in public relations, running a district newspaper office, helping bring professional PR into the British police service, and working on government communications in the UK before eventually settling in New South Wales, Australia. None of that fully explains why, at seven years old, he read Treasure Island so hard he walked into a tree. But it might explain why, decades later, he went back and wrote the story Treasure Island left out: what really happened to Captain Flint.

"I take my readers through a time tunnel and place them in historical eras among the events and characters that shaped our world."

Whether you grew up on Robert Louis Stevenson or you're discovering Captain Flint for the first time, David's novels are built to pull you into the century itself, researched closely enough to trust, written loosely enough to enjoy.

It started before David ever planned to write a novel. He read Treasure Island as a boy and became fixated on Captain Flint, the pirate king who's dead before the book even begins, known only through other characters' memories. David wanted to know who Flint really was. Tread Carefully on the Sea is the answer: built around real historical figures Governor Edward Trelawny, Queen Nanny, Catherine Penny researched and written with the respect real history deserves, even inside a work of fiction.

Flint's ending in Tread Carefully on the Sea leaves more than one door open a medallion that vanishes, a treasure map that changes hands, a death that's reported rather than shown. Whether Flint's story continues depends on where readers want to go next. Join the reader list below and you'll be the first to know.
